Fall Update

We marked the 10th anniversary of Gracianna Winery with some exciting news. Our winemaker surprised us with a special wine this year – the 2015 Gracianna Westside Reserve Pinot Noir. This special blend was carefully crafted with three clones: 667, 777 and Pommard. It’s our first Pinot using the Pommard clone and we’re elated to extend our Pinot Noir offerings to showcase three distinct flavor profiles. It’s a terrific addition to our lineup of brilliant wines.

To further celebrate our 10th anniversary, we created the Gracianna Gratitude Grant to help two Bay Area non-profits that serve women and children. Two organizations shared in the $10,000 prize: The Breast Cancer Emergency Fund in San Francisco and the YWCA Sonoma County in Santa Rosa. We’re grateful for their work and are pleased to support their efforts.

Our 8th annual Winemaker Dinner in July was a celebration under the stars as Lisa and Trini opened their home and entertained with the graciousness that Gracianna herself would have been proud of. It was a lot of fun and our Medallion Wine Club members partied into the wee hours of the morning!

The busiest time of year for any winery is harvest. When those grape clusters are ready it’s a race against the clock to get them from the vineyard to the winery. This year, a late August heat wave finished ripening the grapes on our Mercedes Riverblock estate vineyard and took us into harvest in the early hours on September 5. We harvested 2.5 tons of grapes that our winemaker is excited to turn into a future vintage of our award-winning Estate Pinot Noir.

The Pinot Noir grapes from the Bacigalupi’s followed on September 9 and the Zinfandel grapes came in on September 13. The Fall is always interesting with plenty of warm weather in the daytime and cool temps at night, which is normal for Sonoma County and the Russian River Valley. The foliage begins to change color signaling the next stage of the vineyard’s lifecycle. For mere humans that means the holidays are around the corner, and while the vines get ready for their winter’s nap, the rest of us are planning our holiday menus and wines!

Our annual Grateful Party will be on December 2 this year and all our Medallion Wine Club members are welcome to attend. Invitations coming in November.

Gratitude is an important part of life and we enjoy connecting with others who feel the same. We hope you’ll pause and reflect on your answer to the question, “What are you grateful for?”
